Large-scale and evaporation-wind feedbacks in a box model of the tropical climate
نویسندگان
چکیده
A four-box model of the tropical climate is used to assess its sensitivity to changes in the relative area of the moist and dry regions and to radiative perturbations. The feedbacks modulating this sensitivity are analyzed , particularly the dynamical feedbacks associated with the surface fluxes. The link between the large-scale circulation and these fluxes is found to play a crucial role in the tropics' sensitivity to radiative perturbations.

Modeled sensitivity of upper thermocline properties to tropical cyclone winds and possible feedbacks on the Hadley circulation
sensitivity of upper thermocline properties to tropical cyclone winds and possible feedbacks on the Hadley circulation" (2010). [1] The sensitivity of upper thermocline properties, and global climate, to tropical cyclone (TC) winds is examined using global ocean and atmosphere general circulation models. We combine seven years of global, satellite‐based TC wind records with a standard surface w...
متن کاملExamination of the Bouchet–Morton Complementary Relationship Using a Mesoscale Climate Model and Observations under a Progressive Irrigation Scenario
The complementary relationship between actual and potential evaporation over southeastern Turkey was examined using a mesoscale climate model and field data. Model simulations of both actual and potential evaporation produce realistic temporal patterns in comparison to those estimated from field data; as evaporation from the surface increases with increasing irrigation, potential evaporation de...
متن کاملInvestigation of wind induced wave climate close to the Koohmobarak Area, Gulf of Oman
Abstract Wind induced wave is of great importance due to its high energy. In this study wave climate in the Gulf of Oman close to the Koohmobarak area is investigated. Wave climate study is necessary for determination of long-term analysis of wave statistics as well as climate change effects in the study area. First, wave climate is study using both measured and simulated wave data close to th...
متن کاملDynamic and Thermodynamic Air–Sea Coupling Associated with the Indian Ocean Dipole Diagnosed from 23 WCRP CMIP3 Models*
The performance of 23 World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) Coupled Model Intercomparison Project, phase 3 (CMIP3) models in the simulation of the Indian Ocean dipole (IOD) is evaluated, and the results show large diversity in the simulated IOD intensity. A detailed diagnosis is carried out to understand the role of the Bjerknes dynamic air–sea feedback and the thermodynamic air–sea coupling ...
متن کاملRegional feedbacks among fire, climate, and tropical deforestation
[1] Numerous studies with general circulation models suggest that tropical deforestation can result in regional-scale climate change; namely, increased air temperature and wind speed and reduced precipitation and relative humidity. To quantify how this climate change should affect fire risk, we used the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) CCM3.2 general circulation model and remote ...
